The Leibniz-Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e.V. calls for short-term applications
within the European FP7 Research Project LIAISE „Linking Impact Assessment Instruments to
Sustainability Expertise". The applicant will be responsible for one of the work packages as a:

Task description:
The LIAISE network of excellence is an EU funded FP7 project commencing in autumn 2009.
LIAISE will map, maintain and improve science based methods and tools for policy impact
assessment on the European level, bridging the gap between science and policy making in the field of
sustainable development.
Building upon earlier projects on impact assessment such as SENSOR, SEAMLESS and MATISSE,
multidisciplinary competences will be merged into a cross-linked impact assessment community. Out
of eight work packages that make up LIAISE; ZALF will be responsible for the work package
"Science for Impact Assessment Tools and Procedures" dealing with outreach to the scientific
communities (environment, climate, agriculture, land use, transport, energy, health). The objective is
to organise the flow of emerging scientific knowledge to the impact assessment community and to
identify shared research agendas of relevancy for policy making.
The post holder will coordinate the work package "Science for impact assessment tools and
procedures" in LIAISE. Main tasks include the elaboration of a conceptual framework for developing
transfer methods, the identification of relevant research communities and networks and the
establishment of communication lines for scientific exchange between (inter)disciplinary research and
impact assessment research. Comprehension of scientific contents in various (environmental)
disciplines, strong communication and organisation skills as well as the ability to think through
concepts is essential. An ability for scientific elaboration, documentation and publication of
interdisciplinary findings is seen as a precondition.
Requirements:

  • PhD and/or research experience in the field of land use, environmental or sustainability sciences
  • Proven ability of interdisciplinary research and interaction at the science policy interface
  • Profound experiences with European and International research communities
  • Very good skills in strategic thinking and international communication
  • Ability to work in a team and in intercultural contexts, ability to motivate
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

You will receive a salary based on your qualifications and work experience which can be up to salary
scale TV-L 13, with 75% of the regular weekly working time. You will be part of the impact
assessment research team at the directorate of ZALF in Müncheberg. The position is initially limited
to 12 months but can be extended to a total of 54 months.
The Leibniz-Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) e.V. conducts integrated systems
analysis of agricultural landscapes for sustainable management of land and water, conservation of
natural and cultural resources and sustainable development of rural areas. ZALF is member of the
Leibniz Association.
