Vacancy - Environmental Scientist - Biogeochemistry, CEH Edinburgh

The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is the UK's Centre of Excellence for integrated research in the terrestrial and freshwater environmental sciences and their interaction with the atmosphere.

An environmental scientist is required to assist in the measurement of surface / atmosphere exchange fluxes of reactive trace gases and their interpretation. He/she will compile data for the development of a generalised, global dry deposition model for application in the UK QUEST Earth System Model, and regional / local transport models at various scales. The casual employee will QA/QC existing gradient flux data of O3, NOx and SO2 from three UK sites (Auchencorth, E. Bush and Sutton Bonington), calculate fluxes, assist with the ongoing data gathering and help rebuild the gradient system at Auchencorth. They will also help with routine analysis of chromatograms from a gas/aerosol analyser and general field work tasks. The post therefore invloves a mixture of desk-based data analysis, intrumentation development/maintenance and practical fieldwork. Experience with data processing and analysis using software such as Excel, Igor or LabView, some experience with instrumentation and a full driving UK licence would be desirable.

This is a 50-week casual post; the salary for this role will be £19,540.00 gross (pro-rata for 50 weeks). In addition, NERC offers 30 days' annual leave and 10½ days' public and privilege holiday per annum (pro-rata for 50-week contract).
